Garfield

VII. District (ERZSÉBETVÁROS) Pop Culture & Literature

Jim Davis' orange cat, created in 1978, needs no introduction. Davis named and designed her after his own grandfather James Garfield Davis – a big, grumpy but fundamentally good-natured man whose character still shows in every Garfield strip. Kolodko immortalises her in bright orange, a rare splash of colour among his otherwise mostly bronze works.

The figure peers grumpily out of the rear fence of the University of Veterinary Medicine, directly across from Dembinszky utca – several other animal-head reliefs already hang on the fence, and Garfield simply slots in among them, as if he'd always been there. Installed on 19 June 2023, on Garfield's 45th birthday.

AddressDembinszky utca, opposite the back fence of the University of Veterinary Medicine — peers out of an old wall.
