A small Soviet T-34 tank, its gun barrel drooping sadly like an elephant's trunk – a memorial to the 1956 Hungarian Uprising, when Soviet tanks crushed the pro-democracy movement in blood. Over 2,500 Hungarians died, and 200,000 fled abroad – many of them to Switzerland. It stands on the Buda embankment (Bem rakpart) and aims its limp barrel across the Danube, right at the Parliament building.

The inscription "Ruszkik haza!" ("Russians go home!") on the tank's flank wasn't put there by Kolodko himself, but was presumably painted on by a passer-by – and removed twice, without the tank itself being damaged; it still stands untouched, facing Parliament.

Perhaps, Kolodko suggests, the tank is ashamed of what it once did.

The statue itself was stolen in October 2018. Undeterred, Kolodko replaced it with a new version with a reinforced mount. "We've reinforced the mount a bit more now – I hope it stays in place for a long time," he wrote on Facebook in January 2019, when the tank returned.
