The Skála Kópé (Hungarian: kópé = rascal, scamp) was the mascot of the Skála department store chain — in the 1980s, before the fall of communism, the epitome of the socialist department store. His advertising slogan, ’My heart belongs to the customers,’ was familiar from television for decades.

Kolodko placed him exactly where the legendary Skála Metró department store once stood, right at Nyugati tér, the square by the Western Railway Station — the figure faces the former department store building, which today mostly houses offices. He sits on a barcode-shaped deck chair at the edge of a flower bed, his red heart visibly beating outside his bronze body — true to the old advertising slogan.

A reunion for anyone who still remembers Skála-Coop — and a charming detail for everyone else: consumer culture, cast in bronze, right at its former stage.
