In the mid-1970s, Aunt Aranka opened a small, modest flower stand — a kind of wooden booth — right at the bus terminus on Pasaréti tér. Together with her husband Béla, she sold flowers there for many decades. To the neighborhood, the two were far more than just vendors: they always brought a smile to people’s faces and were the heart of the community.

Aunt Aranka passed away first. Uncle Béla kept running the stand alone despite his advanced age, until he died in February 2021 at the age of 89.

After his death, grieving neighbors spontaneously turned the abandoned stand into a memorial with candles, photos, and flowers. Since the empty stand felt sad without the couple, the local community initiated a permanent memorial. Kolodko created a large, open blossom out of limestone for it. On its surface, the couple now sits as small bronze figures in their familiar everyday roles: Aunt Aranka holds a classic watering can in her lap, while Uncle Béla carries a small basket full of flowers in his arm.

Unveiled in August 2022, exactly on the spot of their decades-old stand — Aranka néni and Béla bácsi now watch over their place together, forever.
